How much teaching experience do you have?
I taught music for 5 years and then journalism for 2 years, after which I continued using my skills to serve as a trainer at every job I held after. Teaching has made me great at taking complex ideas and breaking them down into digestible information.

How much business experience do you have?
Most of my time in journalism has focused on business production needs. My role at newspapers focused on running a streamlined system of content that could hit a hard daily deadline using various content management systems for websites, social media, and art production. Outside of the editorial department, I also have experience as an office manager, sales representative, and newspaper distribution manager.

What is the Collegian Media Foundation?
A 501(c)3 nonprofit foundation that ran The Independent Collegian, a student-run publication serving the University of Toledo campus. Under my stewardship as general manager/adviser, the Foundation turned from years of deficit to making a 17 percent profit.

I was a student journalist at the publication for 3 years before I was hired on professionally. When I was editor-in-chief, we received the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists Award for Best College Non-Daily Newspaper.

Why do you have a music degree?
I’ve been playing the French horn since 6th grade and had planned to go into music education, but I fell in love with journalism after I picked up a copy editing job at the student newspaper. I still play when I can find a gig—Conn 8D fixed bell in rose brass.
